ROSA-ALSCHER Group: dm, Germany’s largest drugstore chain, moves into premises in the new district center of Freiham Nord

Munich, 21.09.2021 While the construction work for the future district center of Freiham Nord is still going on, the ROSA-ALSCHER Group, in charge of part of the large-scale project, started searching for potential tenants for the spaces designated for commercial use. The Munich company supervises two of the four central construction sites. In April this year, the large discounter Lidl was won as tenant. Now a further groundbreaking lease agreement was signed with the drugstore chain dm. Like Lidl, dm is also a very popular store that will offer quality of life at the new gateway to Munich’s west.

A perfect lease agreement

The largest urban development project in Europe is due to be home to 25,000 inhabitants once completed. Media, local as well as regional businesses and of course also potential future inhabitants show particular interest in the development going on. Citizens, urban planners, architects and investors all have high expectations of this new urban location, which increases the importance of infrastructure and local retail outlets. Freiham Nord offers space for apartments, businesses, restaurants, entertainment – and shopping facilities for all every-day needs. In order to ensure provision of the population, a significant floor area at Mahatma Ghandi Square is designated for markets and retail stores. 2,000 m² of the total of 18,000 m² retail space have already been reserved for Lidl. Now dm has secured a further 1,000 m² on the ground floor. “We are delighted that we were able to win this well-known brand name and hope that this will automatically have an effect on other popular retail companies,” company manager Alexander Rosa-Alscher comments on the successful completion of the lease contract.

The next tenants are already waiting in line

dm will move into the same building at Mahatma Ghandi Square as Lidl. Both stores are due to open their doors for the first time in 2024 to serve customers from the entire quarter as well as passing customers who work in Freiham Nord or are visiting. “We are always looking for suitable locations that meet our own demands as well as our customers’ demand for shopping facilities that enable an enjoyable shopping experience with the whole family. In Freiham Nord, we have found such a location. We look forward to offering customers our wide selection of products with over 12,500 different articles at Mahatma Ghandi Square soon,” says Bernd Kornmayer, regional manager at dm.

The ROSA-ALSCHER Group is now focusing on winning further tenants that match the desired spectrum of wholesalers, national and regional retail chains as well as local shops. After having completed work on the construction pit for the district center in the spring, the phase of structural engineering has commenced. Potential tenants can already see how the construction work is coming along and get a good impression of the future appearance. For Alexander Rosa-Alscher, the location could hardly be more attractive: “This is certainly the most exciting large-scale site that is currently on the market in Munich.”
